"Prickly Pear in Bloom" was started as a plein air painting at Tanque Verde Ranch - a "paint out" morning with friends. There were so many wonderful views to paint, it took me a while to settle down, so I just blocked in the values while there. All the rest was done in the studio. I had fun adding the spines on the cactus using a razor blade. Unframed.
A lover of nature, I constantly seek ways to convey my deep love of the landscape, along with the feeling of spirit and serenity it gives me. My goal, whether painting or photographing, is to convey the richness of the landscape, the layers of color, the textures, the feeling of vastness and the transcendent feeling of being alone in the beauty of nature. I was a Realtor for 23 years, in Massachusetts and North Carolina. After retirement, I sold everything and became a full-time RVer for four years, traveling the US and a bit of Canada. Most of these photographs were taken during my travels. At present, I'm happily settled in Tucson, AZ, and spend most of my time painting, drawing and writing. Any watermarks that appear online...
